Fire protection of buildings (Binaların yangından korunması)

Also known as: fire regulation, fire safety, fire extinguisher, yangın yönetmeliği

Definition

The Turkish regulation that sets design, equipment, maintenance and organizational rules to reduce fire risk in buildings and ensure life safety.

The Regulation on Fire Protection of Buildings sets rules that vary by building type and height on matters such as escape routes, fire doors, detection and alarm systems, extinguishers and emergency lighting.

In existing buildings, the management's day-to-day responsibilities are especially important: not blocking stairs and escape routes with belongings, having periodic maintenance done on extinguishers and any fire hose cabinets, and keeping fire doors self-closing.

In some buildings, the regulation also requires a fire safety officer and firefighting teams to be designated; the building's situation should be assessed together with the fire department and experts.
