Occupancy permit (Yapı kullanma izni)
Also known as: iskân, iskan, certificate of occupancy, yapı kullanma izin belgesi
Definition
In Turkey, the permit issued by the relevant authority certifying that a building was completed in line with its permit and project and may be used.
Commonly known as iskân, the occupancy permit certificate is issued by the municipality or the relevant authority after the building is completed in accordance with its building permit and project. It is required for permanent subscriptions such as electricity and water and for converting floor easement into condominium ownership.
In buildings without an occupancy permit, floor easement continues; sale and mortgage loan transactions may become more difficult. Changes contrary to the project (e.g. enclosing a common area, incorporating a balcony into a room) may prevent an occupancy permit from being obtained.
