Debt aging

Also known as: debtor list, aging report, arrears report

Definition

An analysis that groups receivables by the time elapsed since their due date (e.g. 0–30, 31–60, 61–90 and more than 90 days).

An aging table shows how much of the total debt is recent and how much is old. Dues that are ten days late and a debt that has been unpaid for six months are not handled the same way: the first is dealt with by a reminder, the second by a written notice and, if necessary, enforcement proceedings.

A regular aging report clearly shows the owners' assembly how collection is performing and helps determine objectively which files should go to legal proceedings.
