3D Secure
Also known as: 3DS, 3D payment, one-time password, OTP
Definition
A security step in online card payments in which the cardholder verifies their identity with a one-time password or an approval sent by their bank.
With 3D Secure, after the card details are entered, the cardholder is redirected to their bank's verification screen and usually uses a one-time password sent by SMS or a mobile banking approval. So even if the card details have been stolen, the payment cannot be completed without the cardholder's approval.
Verified payments reduce the risk of chargebacks and fraud; for regular payments such as dues, 3D Secure protects both the resident and the management.
