Balance sheet

Definition

A financial statement showing an organization's assets, liabilities and equity at a specific date.

A balance sheet is a snapshot of a moment: what is in the cash box and the bank, who owes money, and to whom money is owed. Since apartment and site managements are not commercial enterprises, they usually account for themselves with an income and expense statement, cash and bank balances and a list of debtors rather than a full balance sheet.

When the end-of-period report presented to the owners' assembly includes the opening and closing cash and bank balances, total charges and collections, receivables from units and payables to suppliers, it provides the same picture a balance sheet would.
